Always features coral pink peonies painted in oil and placed gracefully across the surface. The background and sides are done completely in silver leaf, and the monarchs are all hand flocked with white velvet. The title Always alludes to several ideas; Peonies are a symbol of love and marital good fortune. While monarchs and butterflies in general are-for a lot of people- a reminder of a loved one who has crossed over. The subtle and ghost-like butterflies are always there but not seen from every angle, they are a pleasant surprise, similar to when you spot a monarch in the wild.
Monarchs are one of the most recognized and studied butterflies in the world but their numbers are down by about 90%. Most of this is due to loss of habitat. Milkweed is the only food source for monarch caterpillars and it is disappearing from both land development and the widespread spraying of weed killed on agricultural fields. To help contribute to their protection, a portion of this sale will go to Save Our Monarchs.
